I offer short-term therapy for those who want changes, without the long-term cost.
I also reserve a number of reduced fee spots and pro bono spots for college students.

I am not contracted with insurance and here are some reasons why…
Best Fit for clients
When you utilize insurance you are limited to choosing from in-network providers and specific services covered by insurance. When you self-pay you are unrestricted in choosing the therapist you want to work with and are assured the option of virtual sessions, intensives, and services not based on having a certain diagnosis.
Privacy for clients
Self-pay offers more privacy around protected health information. Insurance companies require therapists to provide them a diagnosis and may request your records be sent to them. By paying out of pocket you opt in to increased privacy.
Flexibility for clients
When you self-pay you may be seen sooner, have more say about what you work on, how long the sessions are, and how long you stay in therapy. Often insurance companies require you to justify your need for therapy with a specific diagnosis and you are given a set number of sessions. By paying privately you do not wait for prior authorizations and can get professional support for anything difficult life brings to you.
Better work-life balance for myself
Insurance companies require a therapist to complete certain administrative tasks in order to get paid. Insurance companies also pay therapists a low rate for the work they do and therapists often work more hours, which contributes to high rates of burn out.
As a private pay practice, a therapist can focus on providing you with quality, up to date care rather than on the administrative tasks required for insurance billing. We can maintain smaller caseloads, and spend more time taking care of ourselves, so we can in turn best support you.
Therapist’s fees not only reflect our education and training investments, but other business related costs around insurance, confidential communication & records, marketing, licensing and, professional development. We can also afford to pay our therapist a good rate when we want our own support.
Therapy is a big investment of your time, money, and energy.
All questions are welcome and valid before you determine if therapy with me is right for you.
Using a “superbill” for out-of-network benefits
-
I recommend you confirm your out of network benefits by contacting your insurance carrier and asking them the following questions:
“I will be paying my therapist out of pocket at the rate of $175. How much will I be reimbursed through my plan?”
“Is online/telehealth therapy covered?“
“What is the deductible amount I will need to meet before I am reimbursed?”
“My therapist will give me a superbill for my appointments. How to I submit the superbill? Is there another form I need to submit as well?”
“When will I receive payment and will they send a check or will they direct deposit the reimbursement?”
Please note: Although many clients have been reimbursed by their insurance company, reimbursement is not guaranteed, and widely varies from policy to policy.
-
Each month I will send you a “superbill”, which is a specialized receipt that you submit to your insurance company.
The superbill includes the following information:
My contact information and tax information.
Your contact information
Your diagnosis (this is required by insurance)
Your fees paid, and session days/times
Note: You may want to look into companies such as Mentaya and Reimbursify who offer services that help consumers submit their superbills.
Good Faith Estimate
Effective January 1, 2022, a ruling went into effect called the "No Surprises Act" which requires practitioners to provider a "Good Faith Estimate" of costs for private pay services. This Good Faith Estimate shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs for an item or service. Should you be charged over $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate you may dispute (appeal) the bill.
